Cancellation policy 48 hours notice – no charge unless otherwise specified on the event booking. Requests received by 12:00pm the day prior will incur a food charge, after this time, full ticket price charges apply.

About the Event
The Brisbane Club is delighted to welcome Eugene Qiao, Assistant Winemaker at G.D. Vajra, for an evening dedicated to one of Barolo’s most admired family estates.
High above the village of Barolo, in the hamlet of Vergne, Aldo and Milena Vaira began making wine in 1972. They farmed without herbicides when few others did, and planted higher than most thought sensible. Today their children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro run the estate, and Vajra is a name serious Barolo drinkers seek out.
Eugene trained in viticultural science, was interviewed for the role by Aldo himself, and has spent more than ten years in the Vajra vineyards and cellar. Members will hear the story of these wines from someone who has worked them from the vine up.
At the heart of the estate is Bricco delle Viole, “the hill of violets”, one of the highest vineyards in Barolo. It gives a Nebbiolo that is perfumed, bright and finely drawn, and tasting it alongside the estate’s other wines shows exactly what altitude brings to Barolo.
Chef Matthew Wynn and the Club kitchen will match the wines with a menu inspired by Piedmont.
A small detail: the “j” in Vajra comes from a printing error on the first labels. The family kept it.
